HOW DAFT PUNK @ COACHELLA CHANGED THE WORLD

The Coachella Valley Music & Arts festival is this weekend and it is literally my favorite 3 days of the year. I went to my first Coachella back in 2003 to see the Beastie Boys. I missed 04 cuz I was out of the country and I havent missed a day since. But the Coachella performance that stands out the most, maybe even the best performance I've ever seen has to be Daft Punk in 2006.

I have been a Daft Punk fan since the first time I heard "Around the World." The song was infectious and the video was mind-blowing. Then "Discovery" came out and they quickly shot to the top of my favorite bands list. There is no better, more influential dance group EVER! Even before that Coachella appearance Daft Punk had a big impact on pop culture. Their music had been used in a number or movies and they had their music sampled by Hip Hop heavyweights Busta Rhymes and Kanye West. But their popularity would continue to grow dramatically after their appearance in Coachella's Sahara tent.

Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger

Kayne West - Stronger

Daft Punk - Technologic

Busta Rhymes - Touch It

Daft Punk - Around the World

The crowd was buzzing even before the band took the stage. You could feel everyones anxiousness. And once they hit the stage, from the very first note, Ive never seen a crowd more energized. The crowd did not stop bouncing and shaking for the whole hour and a half set. I've never seen anything like it. It was the first state side Daft Punk appearance in many years, and it was well worth the wait.

Since their Coachella appearance it seems that every new band is a dance band, and they are heavily influence by Daft Punk. Hell, I dont think blogging would be such a big deal if it werent for this Nu-dance trend which was started by Daft Punk disciples. After their Coachella appearance, their 'Daft Punk Alive' tour followed. Opening for them on their tour were Ed Banger favorites Justice, Busy P, Sebastian & Kavinsky. Their support of Daft Punk gave them great notoriety and Justice was eventually nominated for an MTV VMA for Best Video of the Year. Now dance groups like Justice, Digitalism, and Does It Offend You, Yeah? hear their music over advertisements for everything from cars to tea.

The height of dance music is near with its integration into pop music. Lil Jon is currently working with Diplo as well as performing around the country with him at concerts like HARD 13. Kanye West is very familiar with the dance scene with A-trak as his live DJ. And Snoop recently released a dupstep inspired single called "Snoop Dogg Millionaire. The Sahara tent for Saturday's show seems prime for epic status. Blog House rulers Bloody Beetroots and Crookers start off things early and with late night sets from the legendary dance group Chemical Brothers, and my favorite live DJs MSTRKRFT closing out the night, this will be an event everyone will be blogging about. Prepare for the new pop music. You will see dance music whereever you turn after this year, so I hope you like to shake that ass.

Come back for a Coachella recap later this week.

Justice - D.A.N.C.E.

MSTRKRFT - Vuvuvu

Bloody Beetroots - Warp 1.9

Mixhell - Boom Da (Crookers Remix)
