Film legend John Hughes died yesterday and a little piece of my youth died with him. If you grew up in the 80s like me you have at least 3 favorite John Hughes movies. The man practically invented the teen comedy, which is probably my favorite genre. My favorite John Hughes movie by far is Sixteen Candles. It has the reputation of being a chick flick but fuck that, its just a great story. And there are some classic scenes that stay with you forever. The scene where Farmer Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) holds up Molly Ringwald's panties in the boys room, Joan Cusack trying to get water with her head gear, any scene with Long Duk Dong, and of course the closing scene pictured above.
The only thing that Sixteen Candles doesn't have is that signature song that a lot of John's work had. Here are some of the most memorable tracks from John Hughes movies.
Oingo Boingo - Weird Science
(From Weird Science)
The Psychedelic Furs - Pretty In Pink
(From Pretty in Pink)
Simple Minds - Dont You Forget About Me
(From The Breakfast Club)
Yello - Oh Yeah
(From Ferris Bueller's Day Off)
