It was a battle for the #2 spot, but Beth Gibbons fell just a little bit short. She could chalk it up mostly to being lazy. She has only released 4 albums in her 15 year career, 3 with Portishead and one solo album. But unlike artists like Jay-Z who think quantity is everything (Jay is taking a beating today), every recording Beth has churned out is pure gold. Her dark, ominous voice coupled with great production make for some of the most cinematic songs you will ever hear. There are people who find Beth's voice too sad and depressing, but sometimes you just need some serious music.
